Topology: Mobius Strip
Topology is the study of geometric properties and spatial relations unaffected by the continuous change of shape or size of figures. Andy (from The Royal Institution in London) takes a closer look at one of his favourite demos, bringing together a levitating superconductor and a bewildering Möbius strip made from over 2,000 Neodymium magnets. As his super-conducting pod levitates and zooms along the track, Andy demonstrates the remarkable properties of the superconducting material (Yttrium barium copper oxide) which allows it to float both above and below the track. |
