WHAT IS RANSOMWARE & HOW TO PREVENT IT?


Ransomware is a type of malicious software, also known as malware. It encrypts a victim’s data until the attacker is paid a predetermined ransom. Typically, the attacker demands payment in a form of cryptocurrency such as bitcoin. Only then will the attacker send a decryption key to release the victim’s data. A number of ransomware variants have appeared in recent years, which we’ll describe in greater detail below. We will also explain how you can protect your system against future attacks.

There are many different online threats that you need to be aware of. In this video, we're going to show you some of these threats and talk about how to protect the files and personal data that you have stored on your computer.

There are many ways to protect yourself. If your running Windows 10, one  way is to enable “Controlled folder access”, which is a security feature built-into Windows Defender designed to protect your files and folders from ransomware.

This video shows the basic steps needed to enable it on your PC.
