It was the Suffragettes (Suffrage: means the right to vote in political elections) who started International Women's Day, with the first officially named "International Women's Day" event held in 1911. And still to this day, International Women's Day continues to be a powerful platform globally that unifies tenacity and drives action for gender parity, while celebrating the social, cultural, economic achievements of women.

To mark the International Day of Girls and Women in Science and International Women's Day 2019 eight successful women in science were asked to have an honest conversation about how their gender has affected their career. With no agenda, but to engage, inform, entertain and spark debate. These high performing women discussed gender equality, family balance, preconceptions, challenges and much more. With participants from India, Egypt, South Africa, the United States, Jordan, South Korea, Italy and Finland.
